Comenzamos este año de nuevo con recomendaciones cinematográficas y lo hacemos con una película que postula a los Oscar 2014 -
AGOSTO - trata de Una mujer devorada por el cáncer y el temperamento agrio (Meryl Streep), un marido ahogado en el alcohol y con la palabra suicidio estampada en la frente (Sam Shepard), una geografía yerma que trompe el alma y un grupo de familiares con sobredosis de traumas, rencores y depresiones. El primer tramo de Agosto te hace puré, pero la larga y espléndida secuencia de la cena familiar, tras el funeral, viene a desengrasar tanto exceso de dolor con una cascada de ironía fina y diálogos superlativos. Y hasta el final seguimos rendidos a la potencia de la obra de Tracy Letts, que tiene ramalazos de Tenesee Williams y espíritu de folletín exacerbado. La realización de John Wells, ya que no es creativa, si es felizmente servicial: sirve de modo eficaz a un conjunto de actores y, sobretodo actrices, que están en estado de gracia, aunque su actriz principal Meryl Streep tiene un par de dos o tres momentos sobreactuados que chirrían demasiado. Pero la novia de América, que no estaba bien desde "Algo de que hablar" hace un papelón. Os la recomiendo porque esta va a ser una película de estas que dan mucho que hablar y sobretodo recordar.
